This page may appear the same as the other pages on this site however it is a little different. This page uses frames which is a technique for representing a series of pages that appear as one.
This page is actually made up of four other pages. The separate pages are the top section where the logo is, a page on the left where the menu is, this section where the main content is and a final page which sets out all the other pages know as a frame set.
Frames are useful is you want to be able to scroll one section of a page while still keeping another area visible. For example you may want to keep the main menu visible and still being able to scroll another large list of information.
Yes, you can use frames but more often these days web designers choose not to. In the early days of the Internet some web browsers did not support frames, these days nearly all browsers support frames however with more and more devices accessing the internet such as TV's and mobile phones, there can be accessibility issues with sites that use frames.
Another problem with frames is they rely on the frame set to the accessed first. It is not uncommon for a user to find a page in a search engine which is only part of a framed site, this could just be the header or the menu. Finding only segments of a framed page can be confusing for the user.
Using framed pages can also affect a page's ranking with many popular search engines.
